How to Use WatchWise Services?

WatchWise works by responding to specific tags that you add to your Web pages. These tags send WatchWise the information it needs to count page hits, count downloads, or keep track of hits on advertisements.

Each event WatchWise records needs a unique identifier which you will need to provide. You will then be able to differentiate among events (web pages, files to be downloaded, ads to be clicked) when they are listed in your "Site Statistics" report. The example tags below require you to replace the string 'report_text' with your own identifier for that event, and replace 'www.example.com' with your website name (URL). The 'report_text' can include upper or lower case, but no spaces or special symbols like !, :, @, #, $, %, ^, &, *, (, ), +, =, or brackets. Examples: Main_page.html, sales.html, DL_file1.zip.

1. Tag for Tracking Visitors

Insert the following tag into each page you wish to monitor. We recommend placing it right after your opening <body> tag:

<img src="https://www.watchwise.io/cgi-bin/monitor.cgi?www.example.com:report_text" height="1" width="1" alt="">
2. First Alternate Tag for SSI (Server Side Includes)

If your web server supports Server Side Includes (SSI), you can use this tag to capture detailed referrer intelligence. We recommend placing it right after your opening <body> tag. Pages utilizing this feature typically use a .shtml extension:

<img src="https://www.watchwise.io/cgi-bin/monitorwise.cgi?URL=www.example.com:report_text&LINK=<!--#echo var="HTTP_REFERER"-->" height="1" width="1" alt="">
3. Second Alternate (Most Popular) Tag for JavaScript

Provides referrer intelligence using client-side JavaScript. We recommend placing the following snippet right after your opening <body> tag.

Make sure to replace "www.example.com" with your website URL and "report_text" with the name of the page you want to monitor.

<script type="text/javascript">
  (new Image).src = 'https://www.watchwise.io/cgi-bin/monitorwise.cgi?URL=www.example.com:report_text&LINK=' + encodeURIComponent(document.referrer);
</script>
4. Tracking Downloaded Files

Use the following tag as a link to a file you offer for downloading. WatchWise will monitor and count downloads:

<a href="https://www.watchwise.io/cgi-bin/downwise.cgi?www.example.com:report_text:URI_of_file">Download Link Text or Image</a>
5. Tracking Advertisement Clicks

Use the following tag as a link to an advertisement. WatchWise will monitor and redirect visits:

<a href="https://www.watchwise.io/cgi-bin/redirect.cgi?www.example.com:report_text:URL_for_redirection">Advertisement Banner Link</a>
